artists music : Nicolas Bernier visual: Urban9 guest musicians: delphine measroch, catherine chaumont, pierre-olivier gaudreau, olivier girouard description / program note Les arbres is an audio-visual project merging electroacoustic music and still images created by designer Urban9. The primary intention behind the music of Les arbres is to integrate the two musical genres in which I actively take part: electroacoustic et “experimental-electro-pop”. The soundscapes are slow-evolving textures that play with precise articulations. The orchestration remains minimalist and is composed of guitar, brass, vibraphone, accordion and strings. Les arbres is the result of a collaborative process that took place over a number of years. Designer and photographer Urban9 developed the images that were inspired by the music, while his visual work constantly fed my ideas for the sound track. The fact that the pictures were inanimate brought new challenges that don’t exist when working with moving images.
